#1. Roger Binny finished the World Cup tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets to his name. He was the first Indian among three to finish the World Cup as a leading wicket-taker. After him only Anil Kumble (1996) and Zaheer Khan (joint in 2011) with equal to Madan Lal’s wicket in 1983 World Cup with 17 wickets.
#3. Kapil Dev complete the World Cup as the fifth-highest run-getter with 303 runs
from 8 matches at an average of 60.
#4. Mohinder Amarnath was adjudged ‘Man of the Match’ in both
the semi-final and the final, only Indian to have this achievement in any ICC
Tournament. Amarnath was awarded 600 pounds as cash prize

across both teams - with a score of 38. The only World Cup final without any
half-century.
#6. India’s total of 183 remains the lowest total defended by

World Cup, they were without a coach, doctor and even a physiotherapist

cricket board separately to carry the cricketers’ luggage.

lakh for the entire team. However, Sunil Gavaskar refused to accept 2 lakhs.
#17. When the news of India’s maiden World Cup victory reached
veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, she organized a music concert for the cricket
team. The revenue from this concert was
then distributed among the 14 Indian players, with each player getting Rs.1
lakh.
#18. When the Indian team returned to their homeland, they
received a warm and happy welcome from cricket fans in the country. The then
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and President Giani Zail Singh congratulated the
whole team for the victory.
