Top 10 Most Wicket Takers in ODI

In this article, we are counting down the most wickets in international cricket in one day format taken by bowlers all around the world. There are several Asian bowlers but mostly Pakistan and  Sri Lankan to take the highest wicket-taker in ODI. There is only Indian highest wicket-taker in the top 10 list, check below for more details.

#1. Muttiah Muralitharan (Asia/ICC/SL)

  • Active Years: 1993-2011
  • Match: 350
  • Wickets: 534
This Tamil Sri Lankan bowler, who played in five world cups and one of the greatest off-spinner in the world to date. Murali also takes 800 wickets in Test format, this milestone was completed in his last test match against India. Muttiah Muralitharan's best bowling figure is 7/30.

This Pakistani swing bowler had taken 502 wickets in his long career of 19 years. Wasim Akram last played in the 2003 ODI World Cup. Wasim Akram is also called "King of Swing." His best bowling figure is 5/15.

Waqar Younis made his debut in 1989 against India in a test match, along with Sachin Tendulkar. He played his last match in 2003. He played 262 one day international matches and taken 416 wickets.

Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas is a former Sri Lankan international cricketer, who played all forms of the game, and a former ODI captain. Vaas is considered as the best seam bowler of Sri Lankan.

Shahid Afridi was a leg-spinner and strike batsman from Pakistan who had taken 395 wickets, just 5 wicket ahead from 400 wickets. Even he had a great record for wickets, but not at a good pace with 398 matches with an economy of 4.63.

Malinga is the third Sri Lankan bowler in the top 10 list who have taken 338 wickets in 226 ODI matches.  Lasith Malinga is very popular for his delivery action and his deadly yorkers. Lasith Malinga had a record to take 4 wickets in 4 deliveries and that too for 2 times, once for T20 format.

#10. A Kumble (Asia/INDIA)

  • Match: 271
  • Wickets: 337
Anil Kumble is the highest wicket-taker in ODI for India, after Anil, there is Javagal Srinath who take 315 wickets in 229 One Day matches. Anil had played 17 years for India, but more matches in test format.
